Window Unit Assembly
The window unit was one of the most intricate parts of this set; we made six panes with half-lapped mullions and faux moulding out of strips of MDF and quarter-round. All of the moulding had mitered corners and was assembled with finish nails and wood glue (see detail shot below). Overall, there were four different pane sizes, which meant organization and precision were absolutely essential.
Exposed Ceiling Beams
The wood beams were made from ripped plywood and were an average of 24 feet long. We flew them with chain hoists and bolted them to the set where possible; otherwise the trim height was the final resting point for these beams.
Wet bar and shelving unit
The central challenge of this build was the finish carpentry wet bar and shelving unit (top left photo, above). We started by choosing lumber without knots to produce the best-looking result within our budget, and the limited finish carpentry tools available to us required creative solutions as well. Overall, these units proved to be an engaging challenge that made me excited to learn more about fine woodworking
